Thomas and Mabel appear in the 1930 and 1920 census in Allegheny County. Both show their fathers were born in England. The best I could find for Mabel in the 1900 census is a Mabel Thompson born Jan 1889 in PA with father born in England and mother in PA, living in Washington Twp, Fayette County as the niece of J. Finley Patton 78 and his wife Ellen A. 56. Otherwise there were just too many Mabel Thompsons to know which one is the right one.

If you haven't already I suggest getting Mabel's death certificate and obituary. Hopefully they will list the parents and the obituary may list any siblings she had if any. Their marriage record may have info on the parents. If they got the marriage license in Allegheny County it would be at the Register of Wills Office for the County. If the Mabel I found in the 1900 census is her it looks like she was orphaned. Guardians may have been appointed if she was entitled to any inheritance. This would also be on record at the Register of Wills Office.
