Dear Dee,

From Civil War Arias as you likely know, your Amos was age 33 and residing in Fayette County, Pennsylvania at the time of his enlistment in 1864.

And your Amos with last named spelled RIGER is married and living in Pennsville, Tyrone Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania at the time of the 1860 census. Also, in this township in 1860 is a REAGER family headed by 63 year old David and 66 year old Hannah. Have you ruled out these people as possible parents to your Amos?

I haven't been successful in finding either Amos or David and Hannah in the 1850 census but perhaps that would answer your question. The resources I have at home (Heritage Quest online and familysearch.org) don't allow me to pull up every name in that township or nearby ones in the 1850 census and I have no plans to browse that whole area! Have you found Amos in the 1850 census? If not, perhaps that would answer your question.

A tree for David and Hannah REAGER is found at familysearch.org and while it does not include your Amos as a child, this might be a potential lead as similar names in the same location often provide answers.

Good luck,
Karen
