Lewis family of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kansas
This is a long shot, but.... I have a Thomas Lewis, born in PA in 1778, who settled in Butler County, Ohio around 1812-1815. In 1829, he received a land patent in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. He died in 1870. According to the census records, his wife Anna was born in NJ in 1778; she also died in 1870 [tombstone record]. All four children were born in PA: Elizabeth 1803, Jane 1808, Henry 1809, James 1811. James had a son named David, born in 1847. There appears to be some relationship between this Lewis family and the family of Jacob Lewis, from Basking Ridge, NJ, who was an early settler and land dealer in Hamilton County and Butler County, Ohio. Records in Ohio say that Jacob Lewis, of NJ, lived in the western part of Pennsylvania for a short while before settling in Hamilton County, Ohio in 1802.
