In general, a legal name change must be authorized by a court, and the record would appear in the records for that court.In rare cases, you might find a corrected birth record, but usually only if there was some error to begin with.So you would have to contact the clerk of the court where the name change took place.Most likely, a person would petition the court in the jurisdiction (most likely the county) where he lived at the time, so if you can figure that out, it may help narrow the search.
