Anna

I have posted to your Austria query and no respond from you but in any case glad to see you posted on Ukraine's board.

Here is a website to familiarize yourself with Latin terms on a baptismal certificate :
www.bmi.net/jjaso

A good locator of a town whose name is from the old regime is : www.jewishgen.org/ShtetlSeeker/loctown.htm is locating an Ostapia aka Ostape/ Ostapye in Ukraine and not far from Fedorivka. I hope I am correct. Hopefully someone on Ukraine's board will confirm my find or locate a correct one.

The MUTZ and MUC - it is all in pronounciation. Both come out sounding the same.
His father's name, in the old country, would not have been John but maybe Ivan or Jan. His mother's name might be Hedwiga and her surname does not seem right.

Do check Ellis Island website for all of your ancestral names. Never know who you might find there. To locate an Ellis Island manifest in One Step use : www.stevemorse.org
