Sandy, Here is what info I have:
In 1880:Freeman Grant, age 55, b. CAN as are both parents.
Mary M., age 37, b. Hesse Darmstadt
The mother of the other children (Curtice J., Loyal I.L., Jane and Amanda) would be Charity, age 24 in 1860, b. Penn but deceased before 1870.Freeman has remarried by 1870 to Mary and Charity is 10 months old.
Freeman's mother is also with them in 1880, Cynthia, age 83, b. CAN, both parents born in CT.
That is the brick wall I am up against. My fathers father died before he was born and he knows little about the family.I am sure that the connection to US Grant is just folk lore (As my southern connections to Francis Marion are proving to be.)
I would love to know any of the info about Freeman, Mary M. (is the M. for Meria) and Cynthia.I have found Loyal in Erie in 1910.
Thank you for any help you can provide.Lyle
