Private Martin J. Murray, KIA France, 1944

"An elderly French woman has asked him to track down the soldier, (or family of) Martin Murray.

"The soldier left a signed photo of himself with the woman as a token of appreciation. 65 years later the woman is trying to reach out to him."

The madam is from Salernes, France, liberated on
18 August 1944 by the 45th Infantry Division, 157th
Infantry Division.

I found a Private Martin J. Murray, ASN 33140489, of
L Company, 179th Infantry Regiment. He was from
Luzerne County, PA, and died 6 October 1944. The 179th
was within five miles of Salernes.

He is buried at Plot B Row 33, Grave 16,
Epinal American Cemetery, Epinal, France.

Does anyone know his family. I have asked our French
contact if he can scan the photo in the Madam's possession.

Dave
