I am searching for the parents of my GGG Grandmother Charlotte McAlister Sponsler. She was born March 17, 1816 her husband Solomon Sponsler was born in Perry Co. on March 16, 1819. His parents are buried at the St. Peters UCC Cemetery, Bridgeport, Spring Twp,Perry Co., PA. (Lewis Sponsler and Ann Werner Sponsler) Thus using process of elimination I feel she was part of the McAlisters from Juniata County. I feel her mother was Mary because in the 1850 census I find them as:
1850 Clarion Co., Porter Twp.
Solomon Spouseller 25 Collier PA
George W. 7
Mary McAllister 75
By 1860 they were in Bedford Co., PA where they stayed. By 1860 Mary McAlister is not with them. I feel Charlotte's mother must be the Mary shown with them in the 1850 census. Thus she must be widowed by that time. My guess right now that Charlotte may be the daughter of John McAlister since he had 3 females on the 1820 census that matches her age bracket. Also John was married to Mary Lyttle which would match the 1850 census of the Mary who resided with Charlotte and her husband Solomon Sponlser. Where would I find orphan court records to track John Mcalister's children? Does anyone know if there are any Wills for the Juniata County McAlisters? On Charlotte's Cemetery stone McAlister is spelled with one L. It appears on her stone as Charlotte McAlister Sponsler, in Everett, Bedford Co., PA. I hope to make a trip to Juniata Co., and would be interested in any McAlister sites of interest.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
