I assume you are trying to trace backward from Joseph. I don't know what state Birmingham is in. This will get you started.

Joseph Augusta McHugh's WWI draft card shows he was born Dec 22, 1875. He was living in Slaton, TX at the time.

In 1930 and 1920 Joseph and Blanche were in Slaton, in 1910 Amarillo. I couldn't find Joseph in the 1900 census.

The key to finding his parents is Kansas City, MO.

The 1930 census of same shows a Minnie McHugh, her sister Madge and her other sister Jennie Finney and neice Mary E. The 1920 census shows much the same except their widowed mother Catherine is living with them.

Things get a little different for 1910. The family is still in Kansas City but under the spelling McHue. Included in the family is the father Michel.

The 1900 census shows Michael was born Oct 1840, Catherine Jan 1840, Minnie Nov 1870, Margery Feb 1874 and Matthew April 1880, all in PA.

The 1880 census of Ridgeway Twp., Elk County, PA has this family:

M. B. McHugh 40
Catherine 39
Heber 13
Amelia 12
Annie 10
Arthur 8
Maggie 6
Joseph 4
Matthew, born April 1880.

The 1870 census of Alexandria, Huntingdon County, PA has the family again.

Jennie married J. Clarence Finney in Jackson County, MO in 1909.

Some of these records you can look at for free at beta.familysearch.org and Ancestry.com. For those you cannot see for free I suggest checking with your local libraries to see if they have Ancestry or Heritage Quest.

Still not done.

You can look at the Arizona birth certificate of Mary Elizabeth Finney, daughter of J. Clarence Finney and Jennie Mchugh. It indicates Jennie was born in DuBois, PA: http://genealogy.az.gov/

You can look at Madge McHugh's 1976 Texas death certificate at: https://beta.familysearch.org/#form=advanced-records

It indicates her parents were Miceal McHugh and Catherine Matthews.

Now for the exciting part. You can look at the Missouri death certicates of a bunch of them at: http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/deathcertificates/advanced.asp

You'll find Arthur's 1943, Matthew's 1944, and Minnie's 1950 death certificates. Each indicates the same parents as for Madge. You'll also find Michael's 1917 DC which indicates he was born in Galliston, PA on Dec 26, 1840. His father was Miles and his mother was Mary McNichols. You can also find Katherine's 1926 DC. It indicates her father was James Matthews and his mother's maiden name was Oelrich.

Here's a little more: https://beta.familysearch.org/s/treeDetails/show?uri=http%3A%2F%2Ftree.familysearch.org%3A8080%2Fwww-af-webservice%2Fperson%2F50679201&hash=HloWXpZgU9zB10k5M56iYku8TUc%253D

However, I suggest getting Joseph's death certificate to confirm that I found the right family. The obits for his siblings probably list him as a surviving brother. With luck you can find more of the family in other census records particularly the 1850 and 1860 censuses.
