Pennsylvania didn't start to record births at the state level until 1906. The PA Dept of Health has those. Births were recorded at the county level from 1893-1905 and the Register of Wills office in each county where the birth took place would have them.

The only real place to find births before 1893 is from baptismal records. Finding the records is not always easy. Many in Pennsylvania have been transcribed and copies are deposited at different libraries, archives, historical and genealogical organizations. Another source is family bibles, but it's hard to come across the family bible for the right family.

Check with the Jefferson County Historical Society to see if they can help you.

Why don't you post what you know about Joseph such as when and were he died, who he married, children's names, and you might find someone who can help you.
