I have been working on finding William Hammer Lear's parents for years. He is my GG Grandfather and have also heard of family stories concerning the connection to Tobias Lear. In fact, I am in ownership of a small bible owned by his second wife (Alvira Kate (Newton) Lear) and in the back is a small, original newspaper article printed after his death, that mentions the connection to Tobias Lear. However, I cannot prove or disprove the connection. I would have to agree that either William Hammer Lear is somehow related as a distant cousin or nephew; or he is somehow a descendent via an illegitimate relationship.
I would greatly appreciate any information anyone has collected.
