Fred,

Your's is a very old post, but maybe you'll get this. There obviously was a Norris family in Greene County at that time and a James Norris does appear in the 1800 census.

I have an old letter from my mother's family, written from Muddy Creek, Greene Co. on April 6, 1819. It is from my ggggg grandparents, Philip and Mary Grove, to their daughter and son in law in Stark Co., Ohio.

Philip Grove wrote:

"Your Brother Abraham, has Got Married Much against our will to Susanna Norris, which we had Not the Least thought of. he Married Last Spring and Lived on the place with us Until Lately he has Moved off. She has Been very sickly this while past But is Expected she is on the Mend."

Further down, he added:

"Abraham is Not Moved far off."

Susanna Norris would have been born around 1800 to have married in 1818. Sounds like the same family as your Mary. Her sister perhaps?
