Caroline, In the book WAYNESBURG PROSPEROUS AND BEAUTIFUL issued by Fred High "about the 1906 time range" this is a reprint that I own 1973. on page 110 is a photo of Interior of a Local Exchange (has ladies working the telephone exchange) below is the write up.
The South Penn Telephone and Telegraph Company has 962 phone in Waynesburg, 524 farmers' phone and 75 pay stations. Connections with all the standard companies. The C.D.&P., and American Bell Company give long distance connection with all points inthe United States.
The South Penn is owned and managed by Waynesburg and Greene County people. B.N. Freeland, President; W>D> Cotterrel, Treasurer; E.B.Throckmorton, Secretery and Manager; T.S. Crago, Counse. The officers are all directors and with the following complete the Board of Directors: J.W. Closser, Lou Waddell, J.B.F. Rinehart, Ed Scott and J.H. Wise.
On page 109 is a photo of Residence of E.B. Throckmorton, W.Greene St.
In the Cornerstone Genealogy is many references to the Throckmorton families.
