Barton Family Information - Compiled by C. Kirkstadt, Jan 1997: Roda Barton (gravestone shows RODA, other documentation spell name Rhoda). Two children, Joseph and Katurah...father unknown, per Bernard Barton. Roda is buried in Akersville cemetery.

Tombstone at Akersville Cemetery in Akersville, Fulton County, Pennsylvania:

JUNE 1, 1915
75 YRS 2 MOS

Information about Roda Barton's ancestors - Per research done by Mardell Barton, Roda Barton is a descendant of Noah Barton. Roda is the child of Mahlon Barton (1807-1887, born and died in Crystal Spring, Pennsylvania) and Anna James (1806-1880).

Information on Roda Barton's relatives from Barton Family Information - Compiled by C. Kirkstadt, Jan 1997:
ELISHA BARTON (1729-1823) - Noah Barton (1668-1737) had at least two children...George Barton (George Sr.) and Elisha Barton. It is believed Noah's father was Roger Barton, from Rye N.Y. The evidence for this is a little sketchy, however Elisha did marry Jemima VanKirk and their daughter, Mary did marry Elijah Barton. Mary and Elijah were first cousins. Elisha was a Captain in Morris County, eastern battalion, Revolutionary War. Will dated Sep 21, 1821, proved Apr 26, 1824.
GEORGE BARTON (GEORGE SR.) AND SON ELIJAH - From "History of Bedford, Somerest and Fulton Counties"
"George Barton, Sr., and his son Elijah, from New Jersey, settled, in 1790, on a tract of eight hundred and thirty-four acres. In 1793, Noah Barton, son of George, Sr., came from New Jersey and settled on land now owned by Mahlon Barton. George Barton, Sr., died in 1815. He was the father of John, Elijah, George, Noah and Jane."
"Some time prior to the revolutionary war Elijah Barton, wife and family left their home in New Jersey and started for the west to carve out for himself a home in the wilderness. He selected in Brush Creek valley, the title to which he received from William and John Penn."
Gravestone near P. O. in Crystal Spring shows George Barton, died Jun 5, 1812 age 93 years. (CVK Note: therefore he was born in 1719....other information re. George Barton say he was born in 1731 and died in 1815, therefore age 84).
MAHLON BARTON - Will of Elijah Barton, date Mar 10, 1824 includes...
"Sixthly, I give and bequeath unto my grandson Mahlon Barton, immediately after my decease, all my plantation where I now live, except the property as soon as he shall be of age."
Per Bernard Barton, Mahlon was the illegitamate son of Rachel Barton.

Father: Mahlon Barton (parent Rachel Barton) was born 13 SEP 1807 in Crystal Spring, Fulton County, Pennsylvania. He died 27 JAN 1887 in Crystal Spring, Fulton County, Pennsylvania.

Mother: Anna James (parents James James and Sarah Hanks) was born 26 JAN 1806 in Pennsylvania. She died 29 JUN 1880.
