For a number of years I've been trying to find the Daniel Eicher of Richland, Ohio, who was the father of Rebecca, Lydia, Elizabeth, Margaret, Abijah, Abigail, Henry and Harriet Eicher, several of whom moved to the Greene County, Iowa area.
Many who have the same line have operated under the assumption he was Daniel Kern Eicher who died of his Andersonville imprisonment. However that Daniel was much too young and in fact was younger than Rebecca Eicher (my direct ancestor).
Finally this week, I found the death certificate for the correct Daniel - and also the marriage information for Abijah's second marriage which gave his mother's maiden name.
Daniel Eicher, according to his death information which is filed as Daniel Iker, was born in 1803 in Fayette Co., PA, and died 20 Mar 1873 in Worthington Twp, Richland Co., OH. At the time of his death, he was a widower - meaning his wife Margarette had to die sometime earlier than that.
His wife, according to all of the censuses I have found for the family was also born in Pennsylvania about 1805. I have also seen her name given as Margratte. The marriage certificate for Abijah and his second wife Lucy Agnes Clark lists the maiden name for Margaret as Williams.
In looking at the Eichers in Fayette county, I cannot account for this Daniel - but there are a number of marriages between Eichers and members of the Williams family.
Would anyone be able to account for either Daniel or Margaret?
Thanks for any help -
