Beverly,

If you look in the 1882 History of Fayette County under the names Bowers, Landberger and Keepers, you will find references to fine-quality structural limestone that was available in Fayette Co.

If you look in the available census enumerations through 1930, you are unlikely to find a Zebley owning a quarry or working as a stonemason.

The Keepers quarry and marble yard occupied stonecutters working on both building stone and marble for headstones.

If you go to the Fayette County Register of Deeds office and check Zebley family deeds, you may find a purchase of the Connellsville stonecutting business after 1930. If you also hunt up the original deed by Zachariah Connell laying out the town of Connellsville, you will find a very interesting reference to the limestone quarry.

When the Washington Monument was built in Washington DC, it included limestone from all of the states, and Fayette County sent a slab.

Good hunting,
Jade
