Chris -

You & I are at least 5th cousins. I am also a descendant of Lucinda Hopwood & John Farr (through their son Moses Hopwood Farr & his wife Mary Ann Hatfield). I have a LOT of documentation on John Hopwood, back to his grandfather & various relatives in his home state of Virginia. John Farr's background, however, is an enigma and the exact nature of John Hopwood's 'military' service is a puzzle. He *supposedly* was an "aide" to Washington, but I can find no verification of this. He does not seem to be listed in any muster rolls, he is not listed among the 32 "Indispensable Men" (like Alexander Hamilton et al), he does not seem to be mentioned in any of George Washtington's letters/diaries/receipts...I am waiting on papers from the National Archives and am considering making a trip there to see if he is mentioned somehow, *somewhere* in the (Rev War)Adjutant General's files.
I am also waiting on John Farr's Pension Files from the Pennsylvania Archives. Hopefully when all this mail finally gets to me, there will be some answers.
I know that the DAR has John Farr down as serving in the Pennsylvania Navy on the Strumbello and the Effingham, but I am not absolutely certain that their "John Farr" is Lucinda Hopwood's John Farr. John Farr doesn't seem to be all that rare of a name in Colonial Pennsylvania/America.

Will let you know if/when I find out anything verifiable on both John Farr & John Hopwood.
Thanks for your postings.
