THANKS SO MUCH for the reply!!! I am about to give up! I have found other Norman Reynoldsīs with the same name in the same general area born around the same time.
I do have Normanīs death certificate. It says he was born in Erie PA, mother Harriet Markham of Warren (not Bridget) and father Amos, born in Maine, carpenter.
Warren could be county or city in PA but there seem to be no trees with any Harriet (Hattie) Markham, Markum, etc. If this is the same family, Normanīs older sister was named Harriet after their mother, and if this is the same family in North East, Erie Co., PA then Bridget was a second wife.
That would mean that Sarah, Daniel, Amelia, and Julia were half brothers and sisters to Norman and HarrietII (Lettie) (the daughter of Harriet, Hattie Markum.) This makes sense that Norman and "Lettie" were born in PA, and the other half siblingsī records do say how they were born in NY.
If this is the same family, then Amos at 72 was living with his (and Bridgetīs) daughter Amelia(Emelie)Carter and her husband William Carter in 1870, in Pomfret. Yet this also makes an age discrepancy (birth 1808) with the other census records which do seem to put Amosī birth year at 1810.
(Supposedly Amosī father was also born in Maine, and his mother born in Rhode Island.) I have been randomly looking at other Reynolds trees who came out of Plymouth Colony (Middleboro MA) as one Daniel Reynolds got a land grant in Maine after the Revolution. Yet it was Burnham and not Bangor (and this is just random guessing) very frustrating!
The war in 1812 over the Northern Territories, may be a good reason the father of Amos left Bangor Maine? situated on the Penobscot River (Hanover Co. became Penobscot, Co. after Feb 16,1816) as the British had brought violence to that spot twice.
As a conclusion, I guess this is probably him.

This could be the confusion if "Amos and Bridget" are a different family than "Amos and Harriet (with Harvey and Norman)
in 1860 in Pomfret here is AMOS and Bridget

One thing I am sure of is that this civil war record is definitely the right Norman, my grandmother referred to Normanīs wife Martha F. (Ellis) Reynolds as "Grandmother Reynolds" I have also got Normanīs service record from the National Archives.
