Research Hints Dauphin & Lancaster County

I am planning a research trip east this summer and will have just a couple of days to spend in that part of the state.

Where can I best spend my limited research time there?

My ancestors, Johnston, Crain, Sawyer, and McCord were all in the part of Lancaster County that eventually became Dauphin County in 1785. They left PA for OH circa 1798-1800.

I will likely be needing to search probate and land records both for both periods prior to 1785 and after.

My priority focus is my maternal ggg-grandfather James Johnston born 1738. I would love to find evidence of my James Johnston's parents. He is possibly connected with the Gawen or Gavin Johnston who was issued a land warrant in Lancaster County in 1753, as my ggg-grandfather also had a son named Gawen

Any suggestions on what resources are available and how and where I can best spend my time would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.
