Questions about "First Families of Cumberland County"
Posted by: Barbara Hill (ID *****5027) Date: September 03, 2012 at 16:23:45

If anyone is familiar with the set of volumes, "First Families of Cumberland County," published by the Cumberland County Historical Society, could you do me a favor and describe them really well?

I know there are 27 volumes so far, and each volume has at least one, perhaps 4, maps of areas which were originally in Cumberland County but some of which may now be in another county. I gather they are land ownership maps. How big are the books that accompany the maps? Are they just a few pages of index to the maps, for locating the land of each family, or does each book actually delve into the history of the families who first settled in that area?

In other words, how much real genealogical information on the first families do they contain?

Thank you very much.
