Early Cain/O’Cain/Kain/O’Kain Families in Cumberland Co

I am seeking a connection between Jesse Cane/Cain/Kain (b c1788 possibly in Cumberland Co d 1850 Pickaway Co OH) and ANY Cain family that may have been in Cumberland County from 1750 to 1850.

Jesse Cane/Cain’s wife was Elizabeth (b c1789 PA, d c1860 possibly OH). They likely had several children, two of whom are known by name (Sarah (b c1826 PA, d unk), and Jesse Smith Cain (b c1828-1831, probably Greene Co PA, d 1916, Morgan Co IN).

A possible migration route being studied is: PA (Chester Co, then Cumberland Co, then Greene Co), then Pickaway Co OH during the period from 1788 to 1850.

Jesse Cain’s son, Jesse Smith Cain, stated both Greene Co and Carlisle (Cumberland Co) PA as his birthplace. The evidence more points to a Greene Co birth for Jesse Smith Cain. Thus, Cumberland Co was more likely a place of residence for the family, possibly the birthplace of an older sibling, or the birthplace of one or both of his parents.

Any suggestions, helps would be greatly appreciated. Also, a confirmation that a Cain family line in Cumberland Co is NOT directly connected would also be helpful.

I have comprehensive DNA information to share as well for those who use genetic genealogy as part of their research.

I am aware of the John O’Cain 1752 will, and his brother Daniel. The Cumberland Co First Families list includes a Jesse Cain in the Williamson area (I am following up). There are also early Keen/Kean’s in the area on the same First Families list who may or may not be related.

Many thanks,

Dave Cain
