The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, April 13, 1905

RACHEL RIDER was born November 13, 1822, at Catamissa, Pa., and died April 5, 1905, at her home in Russell, Iowa, at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 22 days.

She was married to JOHN C. DAVIS, April 11, 1845, at Catamissa, Pa. To this union eleven children were born, four are living -- MRS. A.J. KELLEY, of Bushnell, Ill.; JOHN R., EDWARD E. and ELWOOD E., all of Russell.

Sister DAVIS and her husband were converted under the preaching of Rev. Springer, in a revival, held January and February, 1859, in Bushnell, Ill., at the M.E. Church and lived righteous lives unto the end. They moved to Russell in March, 1876 where they lived 'til the husband died, October 27, 1902, after 57 years of happy maried life. Sister DAVIS was very patient through her infirmities. She longed to go and often spoke of having two homes. She asked her pastor, A.H. Rusk two months before her death, to preach her funeral sermon, when she died.

The funeral was held at 3 p.m., April 6, 1905, from the Russell M.E. Church; a large attendance of relatives and friends being present.

The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved ones.
