William L. Mix

William L. "Bill" Mix, of Depoe Bay, Ore., passed away at his home on Sept. 14, 2010.
He was born in Williamsport on March 8, 1933, a son of Sarah (Seamon) and William L. Mix, former chief of police in the city of Lock Haven and South Williamsport Borough.
Bill graduated from Lock Haven High School where he was a member of both the football and wrestling teams. He married his high school sweetheart, Marian Elaine Schreckengast, and in 1955 he entered the U.S. border Patrol and moved away from Lock Haven to begin a 42-year career with Federal Law Enforcement.
He retired from the U.S. Customs service in 1998 and moved from his home in Hawaii. He and Marian spent two years traveling the U.S. in their motor home before settling in Depoe Bay, Oregon.
During his lifetime Bill was an avid runner, particularly enjoying marathons, and after retirement took up golf. He was a member of the Masonic Order and the Scottish Rite.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years and his children, Vicki (Carl) Finseth of Depoe Bay, Oregon, William Leonard (Ursula) of Redondo Beach, Calif., and William Kam (Jiline) of Post Falls, Idaho; a brother, Joseph G. R. (Pirjo) of Boonsboro, Md.; sisters, Emily (Paul) Kelly of Sayre and Lucia (Jack) Gast of Lancaster; his grandchildren Erik, Brianna and Courtney, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Thomas and his in-laws, Delilah (Jennie) and Emory A. Schreckengast.
No formal services were held. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Association Foundation and the American Heart Association.
Bateman Funeral Home in Newport, Ore., handled arrangements.
