I am currently working on the annotation and transcription of Corp. Jacob Ward's diary and Have come across Benjamin Vandyke a priv. in the 45th Pa. Vet. Vol. Inf. Co. E

"March 11th 1862-Tuesday
Benjamin Vandike* (sic) and I took two darkies to the fort they came from the main land and I laid in a stack of paper and (emerged?) and then returned safe back."

*Van Dyke, Benjamin, enlisted September 2, 1861; transferred to veterans reserve corps; date unknown
