I am the the great-great grandson of Sophia Leslie and Jacob Bobst...the great grandson of Emma Bobst. My middle name is "Leslie" after Sophia's maiden name. My family has always spoken of Jacob as having "gone off and gotten himself killed at the Battle of Antietam", however, I have also found evidence that he did indeed fight at the Battle of Antietam and then went on with the 28th PA Volunteers Company E to the Battle of Gettysburg where it is recorded that as a Corporal he deserted on the first day of the battle, July 1, 1863. If he was later caught by Union soldiers, he would have been shot by firing squad, however, there is no record of his execution...so Jacob remains a mystery.
