WOODING & GARRETT
Posted by: Sandra Lewis (ID *****9215) Date: April 21, 2004 at 21:10:26

I have recently learned that my G-G-Grandfather, David M. GARRETT was from Centre Co., PA.

David was born about 1837 to Charles (1808-1881) & Phoebe (1810-1881) GARRETT.

In the 1840 Census, Charles GARRETT & family are in Walker Twp. Centre Co.,PA.

In 1850, Charles & Phoebe GARRETT are across the county line in Porter Twp., Clinton Co., PA. with (6) of their children:
David b. 1837
John Hopkins b. 1839
Caroline b. 1841
Charles Stewart b. 1842
William b. 1846
Analie?? b. 1851 *In 1860 she was called Ellen

In 1860 Charles & Phoebe are back in Walker Twp., Centre Co., PA., two more children have been born: Anna b. 1851 and James b. 1854.

In 1860 their oldest son David GARRETT was living in Carbon Co., PA. with: George WOODRING 31
Sarah " 30
Margaret " 4
Amanda " 2
John Frederick 23

In August1862, in Carbon Co. (formerly Northampton) David GARRETT married Catherine LONG, (b. abt 1836 in Northampton Co., PA.) three days before he was off to the Civil War.

Does anyone have info on the WOODRING & GARRETT connection in Centre Co., PA? I suspect that David GARRETT and George & Sarah WOODRING were related somehow and that they may have traveled together to Carbon Co.

Sandy Lewis
