Sorry I couldn't be of more help. The only suggestions I would have would be to find William's estate record (assuming he had one). Some counties in Pennsylvania also had a docket of death dates after 1905, but the only ones in these dockets were of those who had estate files rather than people in general. A deed may also show his date of death if his property was sold after he died. Tax records for the county may help to narrow down the year of his death. Sarah's obituary might list when he died, e.g. her husband William died in 1918.
You could also pay $34 for an extended 10 year search with the PA Div. of Vital Records. The problem is it may or may not be successful. It does help you know which counties are the best for them to look in.
