Dear Vicky,

There are some HODSONs and HODGSONs found by searching the site although they don't seem obviously related to the family you mention. There are eight HUDSONs including a Mary buried in St John Gualbert Cemetery in Geistown, Richland Township. No dates are given for any of these people although they are all in the same section of the cemetery.

That site also has a number of directories including the 1889 Johnstown directory. There are no HODSONs but there is a George HUDSON and other HUDSONs at the same address. This George is a boarder and the owner of the property was Henry E HUDSON so probably not your George.

You might want to check the obituary index for Johnstown newspapers at

I don't see an obvious flood related date. There is a Mary HUDSON obituary from January 24, 1889 so pre flood. If anything would interest you, there are directions for obtaining these obituaries from the Johnstown library.

There are some McKean County newspapers online at Smethport Newspaper Archives. I didn't find George's marriage there but did find a couple of references to George's extended family under HUDSON including a death record for his mother, Mary and some references to his brother, Thomas.

Unfortunately that doesn't help with your interest in his wife! Perhaps a Bradford, PA newspaper would have the answer.

Good luck,
