Pennsylvania is one of the more difficult states to deal with when it comes to getting access to records particularly state death certificates. We're trying to change that: http://users.rcn.com/timarg/PaHR-Access.htm Since you have the death date for Peter I suggest getting his death certificate from the PA Dept of Health. Unless you're willing to spend $34 for an extended search for Anton's death (with no guarantees they'll find it) you need to find out when he died. If he died after 1905 the PA Dept of Health would have his death certificate. However, if he died before 1906 his death may have been recorded at the Cambria County Register of Wills. It won't tell you his parents' names like a DC will but it will list where he is buried and possible exactly where he was born. I believe Portage would fall under the Diocese of Altoona. Check with them to see if they can help you find the right church and cemetery. You might try contacting Sacred Heart Cemetery to see if Anton and Julianna weren't also buried there. If not they should be able to direct you to a cemetery in the area where they might be. There are a number of organizations in Cambria County that might be able to help you: Cambria County Historical Society, Cambria County Library, Johnstown Area Genealogical and Historical Society, Portage Area Historical Society and Johnstown Family History Center. It looks like Anton Stieger 63 arrived in New York aboard the Edam on Sept 11, 1893. Julianna 55 and Eva 22 arrived in Philadelphia aboard the S.S. Illinois. They were from Capreg which I believe is now Csepreg, Hungary. Peter may have filed for naturalization at the Cambria County Prothonotary Office. His papers should tell you when and where he arrived and very possibly exactly where he was from. Anton may or may not have applied for citizenship. Peter and Eva were married ca 1893. I could not find them listed in the Cambria County marriage index so they must have gotten the license somewhere else. Notify Administrator about this message?
