Finding him in the 1860 census might be the key to making the connections between censuses. The best I can suggest is checking the estate files and Orphans Court records at the Register of Wills offices for Cambria and Blair Counties. Next would be if you're lucky finding some church records.

Blair County Genealogical Society, Altoona Family History Center, Cambria County Historical Society, Johnstown Area Genealogical and Historical Society, and Johnstown Family History Center might be able to help you.

Several people have Rebecca Noel dying in 1848 shortly after marrying: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=Search&includedb=&lang=en&ti=&surname=noel&stype=Exact&given=reb*&bplace=&byear=&brange=0&dplace=&dyear=&drange=0&mplace=&myear=&mrange=0&father=&mother=&spouse=maus*&skipdb=&period=All&submit.x=Search
