I do believe that 1717 is wrong for Capt. Michael McGUire jr. I have no concrete proof but here goes. The only known wife of Michael sr was Patience Wells. They are married by 1744 and still married in 1771. The first date from the name of the plantation in MD and the second from the estate records of James Wells. There are no McGuire children in the Frederick Co area who could have come from a first marriage. Michael Sr did not sell land to them and they were not mentioned in any legal records I could find. I have no idea where the thing about a wife named Mary Burke came from. I have found nothing what so ever on this woman. Patience has no confirmed birthdate, but based on her siblings she could not have been born before 1710 or after about 1728. Michael Jr had his first land transaction in 1761. I believe he was just coming of age. Also in 1758 Michael sr petitioned the court saying he could not pay his taxes because he had a young family and they had experienced illness. If he had two grown men in his household I don't think he could have said he had a young family. I believe Michael jr was born around 1740. He and John were born close in age. John also had his first legal transaction in 1761. Now to explain the 1717 date. That seems to come from Souvenir of Loretto. The dates for Michael and Rachel are mixed together. Also Rachel is idenitfied as Michael. If you go to the cemetery you will see that there is no nephew named Michael buried next to Michael but Rachel is. Also the stone for Michael is a duplicate of the original placed there in 1856 by a McGuire and a Scanlan. This is the stone the Sourvenir people who of used in 1899. There is no age given on this stone. This seems a little confusing but I hope it helps you think about the issue carefully. Notify Administrator about this message?
