NOTE MY ANALYSIS: There appears to have been five major hands doing the entries in the McGuire Bible.
1) The same person kept the bible for the entries on the top of pages 4 and 5. The entries have the Y between the month and the year. Also the digit 1 is unique. Perhaps Rachel McGuire made these entries??
2) The hand which entered Richard on page 6 may have been the same who entered Rachel’s death on page 4. The Rs and Ms for the entry for Rachel’s death are very similar; however the 8s are very different. The As and Gs do not match the entries for pages 4 and 5, so entries were not by that person. Perhaps one of the girls made these entries???
3) A different person did Luke and Margaret (page 3). The H on Henry (page 5) and O’Hara (page 3) are definitely different. So are the Ms on McGuire. Margaret or Luke perhaps made entries??
4) Then a different person did Luke and Martha. The M in McGuire is very much like the M on page 3, but the G in McGuire is very different. The As are similar. Born is written with a capital letter on page 3 and a small letter on page 2. The death entries for Richard and Eleanor match the handwriting on page 2. The death entries at bottom of page 3 match handwriting of births of Luke and Martha’s children. However the handwriting looks like an older person. This is probably Luke. He writes MarthaÂ’s name very similar in marriage record and in death record.
5)Then a different person did Mark and Jane. The marriage entry looks similar to the writing on page 2. The births are in a different hand. The death entries on page 5 match the handwriting in the births on page 2. Jane or Mark perhaps made these entries???
It would appear that the bible passed from Rachel McGuire to son, Luke, who passed it to his son, Luke, and then on the Mark. The first entry says 1766 and the last 1882.
