Thank you for your interest in my problem!
Jared Irwin was Rachel Owen's first husband. After Jared Irwin died, she married Thomas Hughes. This sequence is clear both from the record of her second marriage and her declination of participation in the affairs of Jared's estate, as spelled out in the probate procedure.
Jared and Rachel's son Charles is my three greats grandfather and, with his family, emigrated to Newmarket, Ontario, in 1810.
Before this there was a sheriff of Northumberland County, PA, named Jared Irwin, with whom my 3-g grandfather had some land dealings. This Jared came from the South in the 1790's. I cannot find any connection between him and my 4-g grandfather, who, as you know, had died in Bucks County one or two decades earlier.
Since "my" Jared seems just to appear out of nowhere, in Bucks in 1752 when he purchased land, I suppose that to assume a connection between him and the southern Jared is an interesting speculation; but we certainly need some evidence before taking it seriously.
I had another wild idea: is it possible that Jared came from Scotland in the preceding five years as did many Scots who were sent to the New World to get them out of the way after Culloden? The very scrappy records I have seen list no one of his name in this category.
I may have to remain in this dream world unless better records show up.
