Hello Emily Pritchard Cary. Where have I been for the past 6 years?
Benjamin Davis according to the IGI was b. 1712 in Necheminak, Bucks Co., PA. I prefer the 1721 date. The Benjamin I am looking for migrated to Loudoun Co., VA where he d. in 1803. Benjamin m. Hannah ___. Their children were: Ann b. ca 1750, m. ca.1782 to Andrew Orrison/Arison; Abel, b. ca. 1738; Sarah, Elizabeth, Howell, b. 1759 m. Sarah and two sons listed in the IGI, Joshua & John who was John Jr. Another sibling was Elizabeth Huffman who m. William Smith. I suspect one of Ben's sons was the father of Abel Davis [ca 1765-1847]who m. Mary Huffman, d/o John Huffman, b. 1741 Berks Co., PA and d. testate in Loudoun Co. 1792.
My grandfather, John R. Davis [1867-1947] was an educator whose biography was published in a History of Oklahoma. In his bio. the claim is made that his grandfrather was related Jefferson Davis as his mother's maiden name may have been Howell so the possibility exists.
Abel & most family migrated to Champaign Co., OH seemingly to join other members of Mary's extended family. Mary d. before 1828 as Abel m. Catherine Kirkwood that year. By 1835 many of Able & Mary's children were living in White Co., IN where Abel d. in 1847. Abel & Mary's children were Mary, b. 1790, m. Enoch Current; Rebecca, b. ca 1794, m. Andrew Luzader; Catherine, b. ca.1797, m. Aaron Deaver; John, b. 1800, m. Mary Eliabeth Newland; Isaac, b. 1804, m. Mary Phillips; Elizabeth, b. 1809, m. Jonathan Benjamin; Philip H., b. 1808, m. Catherine Smith; Jacob, b. 1811, m. Sarah Wolf and Nancy, b. 1814, m. James W. Welsh.
