I grew up with a VANDERGRIFT family in Eddington, Bucks County Pa. during 1960's. The oldest was RUSSELL VANDERGRIFT - he must have been in his 70 or even 80's then.
Story was that he had sold off all his surrounding property (BIG farmland) in Eddington and the surrounding streets were names after his daughters - Russell was my next door neighbor and we lived on PEARL Street. As I recall, Street names were - Olga, Marion, Pearl, & June. He had a son named William (Bill)(Great guy!) and a daughter, maybe named Rachel or something similiar to Rachel, I know it began with R and I don't think it was Rachel - can't remember off hand. Anyway, try a Russell Vandergrift in Eddington, may get you somewhere - Eddington was renamed Bensalem maybe around 1980 or so. WE still call it Eddington. Wasn't very big but Cornwell Heights, Andalusia, Croydon, Bristol are surrounding towns.
Hope it helps, Samantha oh yea, there was a family cemetery "Vandergrift Cemetery" in Cornwell Heights on the corner of Bristol Pike & I think Sunset Lane. Really cool place to play!! Good luck, Sam
