Richard P. Simonis
Richard P. Simonis, 85, of RR#2, Box 373, Athens, PA passed Wednesday June 19, 2002 at the Robert Packer Hospital after a short illness.
Born August 9, 1916 in Rosholt, WI the son of Martin and Veronica Thorpe Simonis, he served in the U.S. Navy for 33 years and then worked for the U.S. Postal Service before taking over a limo and taxi service. He moved to the Valley area in 1975.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a life member of the Knights of Columbus and the Skiff Bower Post #1536 V.F.W. of Sayre, a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Group and former member of the Windham Fire Department.

His is survived by his wife of 55 years, Henrietta, at home, his ten children; Rose Marie and John Thompson of Lake Hiawatha, NJ; Peter and Chae Simonis of Long Pond, PA; Paul and Patricia Simonis of Lake Hiawatha, NJ; Patricia and Jerry Brown of Slaughter, LA; Jacqueline Siewell of New Jersey; Michael and Linda Simonis of Denville, NJ; Gerard and Pearl Simonis of Athens, PA; Andrew and Cheryl Simonis of Newton, NJ; Anne and Leigh Hartjen of Apalachin, NY; Philip Simonis of Athens, PA; 28 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; his brothers, Gerald and Douglas Simonis and a sister Delores all of Wisconsin, numerous nieces and nephews.

A son, Bartholomew Simonis, predeceased him in 1974.

Family and friends may call at the Lowery Funeral Home, 225 South Main St., Athens, PA Sunday June 23, 2002 from 2:00-4:00p.m. and 7:00-9:00p.m. A biblical wake service will be held.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 9:30a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Athens with Rev. Vincent Langan officiating.

Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 205 North Main St., Athens, PA 18810.
