In the spring of 1797 there had been an emigration of families to this region from the Susquehanna Valley. Their settlement was made upon warrant-land, now occupying the southwestern part of Deer Creek Township. Settled in Deer Creek 1797, Mercer Co., PA.
He set out a patch of potatotes and when the vegetable had attained their growth, buried them in the earth and returned to the populas regions a second time to pass the winter.
