The Samuel and Jonathan Phillips mentioned on this thread were both in Ireland and emigrated to America before the First American Civil(or Revolutionary) War. My Phillips ancestors came from Cecil County, Maryland and were there since the 1670s. The connexion between my ancestor Thomas Phillips (born in Pennsylvania 1790s; died in Ohio or Illinois c.1845) I think is a James Phillips who was born in 1770 and in 1790 lived on a Depreciation Tract in Allegheny County, PA. He already had a family of 2 boys and a girl along with a wife (if I read the census record correctly) at the age of 20 years. Now a James Phillips was born in Lancaster County, PA, in about 1770 to John Phillips and nothing further is known about him. John Phillips (1734 to 1833) was born in Cecil County, Maryland and it is his DNA that my Thomas Phillips is closest related too.
