I am searching for information on John Coon and his family who are the ancestors of many of the Coon, Koon, Kuhn families in Beaver, Lawrence and Mercer counties in PA.
About the year 1800 the tract of land occupied by Newport in Beaver County was settled by Conrad Coon, who came with his wife and three children--two girls and a boy--from Lancaster county, Pa., and located on the place.
Forty acres of land were laid out into lots by John Coon, in 1833. I believe John is the son of Conrad Coon.
Conrad Coon is listed in the 1810 census as living with his unknown wife in Big Beaver township of Beaver Co. No children are shown. According to the census, he would have been born before 1765 and she would have been born after 1765. Their son (I believe) John is also in Big Beaver township in the 1810 census. He is listed as between 26-45 years old and his wife is between 16-26. John and his wife Catherine live in Big Beaver township from 1810 - 1860. In 1850 this township was part of Lawrence County, PA. It appears that they had 6 sons and one daughter. Their son Jacob - my ancester - was born in 1806.
Jacob Coon and his wife Mary Swogger and their family are listed in the 1830 & 1840 censuses as also living in Big Beaver township of Beaver Co., PA. They removed to Pymatuning township in Mercer Co., PA before 1850.
I am fairly certain that Conrad and John are my Jacob's grandfather and father but have no information at all on them. Any information on this Conrad or on John Coon would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
