That is remarkable, Karen. We in Armstrong Co. just commemorated the 250th Anniv. of Battle of Kittanning. Cpt. Jacob was sub-chief to Shingas of the Lenni Lenape. He lived peacefully at Lewistown until late 1740s, and sold land to British to build Ft. Granville. Moved in disgust when place was overrun with settlers as fort built. Little is known or survives of most who were at Kit-han-ne, then the largest Lenape villages. Many raids were launched from there, led by Jacobs. He was a great warrior. He died at his longhouse as well as his wife and tall son during the battle. Col. Armstrong withdrew as Chief Shingas crossed the Allegheny in pursuit. A War Memorial containing his name (few names survived) was dedicated to all of Armstrong County's War Dead (all wars) by name in 1996, and Senaca danced a War/Peace Dance for all. Get in touch with me at courthouse for more information that exists and how we honor all, not just some.
