If you order his death certificate you should get more information on the family. I believe it costs $3 since they don't have to do an extensive search for it. You have the full name, date of death and the certificate number from the index. Google has a place to search newspapers so that may help to get the obituary.
Also, try contacting the Carnegie Library Pennsylvania Room in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh. They have both the Pittsburgh newspapers and the Homestead Daily Messenger on microfilm.
