Probable death in coal mine 1868 ?

My ancestor, a coal miner, died between 1867-68.The last child was born Jan 1868. His wife, left with 7 children under 16, remarried Apr. 1869 at St Michael (their home parish) The Diocese can't find a death record from the church or any of the German churches. Is it a good probability that he died in the coal mine and his body was not retrieved?
