Don't necessarily rule out names that start with "C" as not being an authentic German spelling of a last name. I have come across early German records that used the "C," including for my own last name. I once read when the "C" fell out of favor, so to speak, as German spellings were standardized, but I no longer recall the specifics.

Although I haven't found any Kuhn/.... in my own ancestry yet, I recall having come across numerous variations on the name as I've done my own research in the Adams County and York County records/archives at the Adams County Historical Society.
