Just came across your message. Don't know if there is any connection, but my gr gr grandfather's brother, Elijah Wallace, married Elizabeth Cassatt Armstrong of Hunterstown, PA on Oct. 16, 1833. Among their 6 children was a daughter Mary Cassatt Wallace. They emigrated from PA to Whiteside Co. IL in 1838. An excerpt from a "History of Whiteside County" (written I believe around 1890,) says about Elizabeth that she "had an excellent pedigree, belonging to one of the best families in PA, the Cassatts. Her father was prominent in politics, and it will be rememberd that the late....president of the Penn RR Co. was A.J. Cassatt. In her girlhood, Mrs. Wallace had a good education, and in her pioneer days must have missed the refinements of her father's home...." Obviously if her maiden name was Armstrong, her father wasn't a Cassatt, but perhaps her mother was. I'm trying to determine if there is any connection between this gr gr gr aunt and the later Impressionist painter, who I believe was also from PA, but I haven't gotten very far in my research. (the Wallace family being my main interest.) Don't know if this helps you at all--if you see any connections, let me know.
