My Grandmother was Anne Louise Oxford daughter of Samuel Oxford 1874 Polstead Suffolk UK son of Harry Oxford 1841 Stoke by Nayland Suffolk UK son of William Oxford 1815 Layham Suffolk UK
Son of John Oxford 1770 Stratford St Mary Suffolk son of John Oxford 1742 Kersey Suffolk UK son of John Oxford 1698 Son of Thomas Oxford 1668 and Sarah Lulpeck Hadleigh Suffolk UK brother of Samuel Oxford 1707 Hadleigh.
According to our records Thomas 1668 is the son of Stephen Oxford 1639 Bury St Edmunds Suffolk who is the son of Thomas Oxford and Thomazin 1617 who is the son of George Oxford 1595. This is as far as we have got and funnily enough not a De Vere in sight. My Dad did have a look at this red herring a number of years ago.
According to our family research Samuel died in 1708 and his gravestone is in Hadleigh Graveyard and the parish records match - checked by a researcher living in Hadleigh on our behalf 15 odd years ago it can also be found at the records office in Kew source attached to my tree in rootsweb and ancestry.com I am also waiting for a hard copy of the actual record from Bury St Edmunds Records office. Do not worry you are not the only one that has fallen for this.
