There has been some speculation of a relationship between the Oxendine and the Oxenden (also Oxinden) family of England due to a reference to ““my mother’s sister, Lady Oxenden” in a will. As read in some write ups the assumption is that this is the will of William Penn, however, the will is that of his first wife’s, Gulielma Maria Springett, mother, Mary Pennington (nee “Proude”). Mary Proude married first William Springett and then, Issac Pennington. She was the sole heir of her father, Sir John Proude and her mother, “Lady Prewde”,(nee Anne Fagge). Anne Fagge had a sister named Marie Fagge. Thus, “my mother’s sister” refers to Anne Fagge who married Henry Oxenden (Oxinden). This “Henry Oxenden" was the son of Edward of Brook Oxenden. Henry Oxenden and Marie Fagge Oxenden had a son named Henry of Brook Oxenden, Lt. Col who married Margaret Masters. As such, the Oxenden’s were related to William Penn by marriage through his wife, Gulielma Maria Springett, and then only distantly through Gulielma’s grandmother’s sister’s marriage into the Oxendens.
