To Marc & Douglas Oxby.
I have been researching one of my lines for the past 2 years. The Probles has been that the "SPELLING" keeps changing, 21 different spellings to date, I HAVE A VERY, VERY, VERY LARGE DATA BASE. These are some of the spellings:-
Hauksbee, Hawksbee, Hawxby, Haxby, Haxbey,Hoxby, Hachesbee, OXBEY, OXBY, etc. etc. ect.
I have got The family back to Yorkshire in 1570. then to ELY, Cambridgeshire, 1573-1600s
then to EARLS COLNE, Essex, Jon Hauksbee Vicar of Earls Colne, Essex in 1612. some of the family moves to COLCHESTER in the mid 1600s-1700. then the whole family over time moved to BETHNAL GREEN, EAST LONDON. from the late 1600's until the present day.
I do know that there is only one family left in Bethnal Green, London Most of the family in different lines of the same family are living in different pars of essex,(Essex seems to have become the "HOME STEAD" for the families. some members are in SOUTH WALES, some in KENT, Some in GLOUCESTERSHIRE and my self and another family line are in Cambridgeshire living a about 15 minutes drive from Ely where the family lived in 1570s. I am almost sure that the family name is VIKING.
can you both get back to me with your information. thanks Jeanette Shermer
