Frank Alexander Owenby & Porter Alexander Owenby - the same person?

I think they might be the same person - born Porter Alexander Owenby, died Frank Alexander Owenby. Does anyone have any information that might link Porter A. Owenby to Frank A. Owenby? I have reason to suspect they are one and the same person. Can you help me prove or disprove this? Frank Alexander Owenby is my gggrandfather. I have a birth date for Frank of 4/4/1854 in GA. He married Nancy Anne Ware in Uvalde, TX in 1879. He moved on with his family to Arizona where he died in 1940. I can find no record of him before 1879 - his marriage license of that year is issued to "P.A. Owenby", but could be a mistranscription of "F.A." I can find no record of Porter after 1870 where he appears on the census in Union Co., GA. Is is possible that sometime between 1870 and 1879, Porter left GA for Texas and changed his first name but not his last or middle name? Why?
