|FOREWORDWilliam S. Parker, Sr. was my great-great-great-grandfather. My great-great-grandmother was Lavinia Parker, a daughter of I William S. Parker, Sr. Lavinia married John Owen II.
William S. Parker, Sr. was my great-great-great-grandfather. My great-great-grandmother was Lavinia Parker, a daughter of I William S. Parker, Sr. Lavinia married John Owen II.My parents were Charlie and Vivian Owen Crawford. My mother was a daughter of John "Cub" Owen.
My parents were Charlie and Vivian Owen Crawford. My mother was a daughter of John "Cub" Owen.I grew-up in Gloucester township No. 1, of present day Transylvania County, N.C. Gloucester joins the Jackson County, N.C. line at the top of Owen s Mountain at the Canada section.Sections of Gloucester were in Haywood County, N.C. until | Jackson County was formed in 1851. When Transylvania County: was formed in 1861 all of Gloucester was included in the new county.
William S. Parker, Sr. lived in the part of Gloucester which was located in Haywood County. His old homeplace stood where L.E. Owen lives today, near Mt. View Baptist Church in Gloucester. I believe William S. Parker, Sr. and his wife are buried in the present Jehue McCall Cemetery, near Macedonia Baptist Church. The front section of the cemetery is known as Brown Cemetery. The first person to be buried there was a Mary Brown who died in 1826.
The first church in Gloucester was named New Prospect Baptist Chruch. It was formed by 1820 and I believe it stood j at the above mentioned Brown Cemetery. He also received a land grant of 640 acres in 1783 in Davidson County, N.C., now in Tenn., on Station Camp Creek. This land grant was No. 398. This grant was for his work in helping to lay-off Rev. War land grants. The the government didn't have money to pay them so they gave them land, the same as a private would get

War soldier."Pinney's" father did not live in this area, but she had a brother who lived here and he is the ancestor of all the Massengales that live in Jackson Co., N.C.Solomon and Elizabeth were already married when they came to Gloucester of present Transylvania County, N.C.I believe some of their children were born before they came here.
