I agree that your Mary Owen is not the daughter of William P. and Nancy (LaPrade) Owen; their daughter, Mary, was born in 1788, and married John Crenshaw. But I really believe that your Mary was a part of the William P. Owen/Nancy LaPrade family.
On the 1850 Madison County census,
Thomas M. Schrimsher (age 30, b. AL),
Mary H. Schrimsher (age 28, b. AL), (married 7 June 1843)
Mary E. (age 6),
Matilda (age 3) and
Nancy A. (age 6 mo.)
are next door neighbors to John D(imue) Owen, age 30, who is the grandson of William P. Owen/Nancy LaPrade. His father was David Andrew Owen, born 1790 and died 1827.David Andrew Owen married Mary Polly Dimue.According to the family tree info I have, she also died in 1827.
On the same page of the 1850 census, listed just before Thomas and Mary Schrimsher are
Alfred Schrimsher (age 39, b. TN)
Mary A. (age 25), [Alfred and Mary Ann Crenshaw (daughter ofMary Polly Owen and John Crenshaw), married on 12 July 1843]
Lucy J. (age 5),
John O. (age 4),
Georgia A. (age 3),
Rebecca M. (age 3 mo.) and
Alfred Jones (age 17).
Also on the same page of the 1850 census are
Wiley M. Schrimsher (age 37, b. NC)
Sarah A. (age 28),(Wiley Schrimsher and Sarah Ann Owen were married on 23 October 1839.)
William A. (age 9),
Russel J. (age 8),
Thomas J. (age 5),
Andrew (age 5),
Nancy E. (age 3) and
Wiley (age 1).
So, your Mary Owen Schrimsher is surrounded by members of the William P. Owen/Nancy LaPrade family.Could Sarah Ann Owen be your Mary Owen's sister?
My theory (and it's only a theory) is this:John Dimue Owen (b. 1820), your Mary Owen (b. 1822) and Sarah Ann Owen (b. 1822) (twins?) are the children of David Andrew Owen and Mary Polly Dimue. The Mary Harless (age 58, b. VA) that is listed in the household between John Dimue Owen and Sarah Ann (Owen) Schrimsher may be their mother (hence, the middle initial of Mary on the census, "H".But John Dimue Owen is the only child listed with parents David Andrew Owen and Mary Polly Demue on the family tree info I have.
There are others in this Owen family who could be your Mary Owen's father:
........ 2 Hobson Owen b: September 9, 1800 in Virginia d: Unknown
........ 2 John B. Owen b: July 14, 1802 in Virginia d: Unknown
............ +Sarah Jenkins b: in North Carolina d: Unknown m: March 29, 1821 in Madison County, Alabama
................... 3 Nancy Emeline Owen d: Unknown
................... 3 Maria Augusta Owen d: Unknown
........ 2 Anthony Martin Owen b: June 19, 1804 in Virginia d: Unknown
........ 2 Laprade Owen b: March 8, 1795 in Virginia d: Unknown
............ +Sallie UNKNOWN (Owen) d: Unknown m:
John B. is probably not a candidate, but the other three are candidates since nothing further is known about them.
There was a Sara Ann Owen, daughter of William F. Owen and Nancy Sanford who could be the wife of Wiley Schrimsher, listed above.
